A design documentary about everyday life as a heart patient. Part of a series of three films about heart patients, with Debra and Kent.
Portrait of a heart patient persona based on 7 interviews by Philips Medical Systems in Seattle. Reality and fiction are mixed by making a compilation of the material (interview tapes, photos) that was collected during the interviews. As a researcher I comment on this material by adding a few 'video photos,' long static shots that comment on the stories told in the interviews.
Design documentaries Debra, Kent and Fred were used by a
multidisciplinary design team at Philips medical Systems in Seattle. The films helped the team to ground their speculations about the use of their design in the everyday lives of heart patients. I published about the three films and how they were used in a
paper for DIS2006.
The total length of the design documentary is 7 minutes. The clip shown here is 2 minutes.
This project was commissioned by Philips Medical Systems North America in 2004. Scripted, directed, filmed and edited by Bas Raijmakers.
